What is Payday Super and what does it mean for my account?

Written by Kayla

From 1 July 2026, a new law called Payday Super changes when your employer pays your super. Instead of waiting until the end of the quarter, your employer must pay your super on the same day they pay your salary or wages.

Here's what that means for you and your Spaceship Super account.

The new payment timeline

Under Payday Super, here's how your contributions flow from your employer to your account:

  • Your employer pays your super on your payday

  • We receive the money within 7 business days of your payday

  • We allocate it to your account within 3 business days of receiving it

  • You'll see it in your account within roughly 10 business days of being paid

This is a big change. Previously, your employer could pay your super once a quarter — meaning contributions could sit unpaid for up to three months. Now, your super moves with your pay.

What this means for you

Your super will now be invested more frequently, which means it starts earning investment returns sooner. You'll also be able to see regular contributions landing in your account, rather than occasional lump sums.

You might notice a short gap between your payday and when the contribution appears in your Spaceship Super account — this is normal. The 7-business-day receipt window and 3-business-day allocation window are both built into the law.

If you're starting a new job

There's a small exception for new starters. Your employer has 20 business days to make your very first contribution while they set up your details in their payroll system. After that first payment, the standard payday cycle applies.

What you should do now

To make sure your contributions land smoothly, confirm these details with your payroll team:

  • Your Tax File Number (TFN)

  • Your Spaceship Super member number

  • Your full legal name as it appears on your Spaceship Super account and your payroll records - these must match exactly

  • The Spaceship Super Unique Superannuation Identifier (USI)

A mismatch in any of these details can cause a contribution to be returned to your employer, which may delay when it reaches your account.
