If you make an investment in the Spaceship Origin Portfolio, Spaceship Universe Portfolio or Spaceship Earth Portfolio (a Spaceship Voyager portfolio), withdraw an investment from a Spaceship Voyager portfolio, or receive income (aka a distribution) from a Spaceship Voyager portfolio, you are likely to have tax consequences.
Here's how tax time works if you have a Spaceship Voyager portfolio (managed fund).
If you are a Spaceship Voyager customer within a financial year (which starts on 1 July and ends the next year on 30 June), you will receive an annual statement from us.
The annual statement will include a record of all your transactions during the period, which you or your tax agent can use to determine whether you have triggered a tax event (such as a capital gain or loss).
You will also receive a tax statement (aka an AMMA statement) if you were eligible for a distribution during the financial year.
The tax statement or AMMA statement will outline any income you received from your investment and the related tax consequences.
You will need both the annual and tax statements to complete your Australian income tax return.
Please make sure your Spaceship account email address is up to date so that you receive your statements.
Spaceship sends the Australian Tax Office (ATO) financial information on your Spaceship Voyager portfolios, which allows the ATO to pre-fill your tax return.
It is important you check pre-fill information against your tax statement when filing your tax return.
A distribution is your share of your portfolio’s distributable income (such as dividends and interest), capital gains, and withholding tax.
You are allocated a share of this income and tax if you are a unitholder on the distribution calculation date. The distribution calculation date generally takes place annually, and is on or around 30 June each year.
Your distribution will generally be paid within 90 days of the distribution calculation date.
Distributions for the Spaceship Universe Portfolio and the Spaceship Origin Portfolio are paid by direct credit to your bank account.
Distributions for the Spaceship Earth Portfolio are paid by issuing additional units in the portfolio. This means your distribution is reinvested into your portfolio.
Please make sure your bank account details are up to date so that you receive any distribution payment.
